About Peak Airsports

Your Instructor

Mark Bosher is a Senior Instructor with the British Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association (BHPA). He is also Chief Flying Instructor (CFI) of Peak Airsports.

Mark started parachuting in the late 80’s, then started his flying career in 1992. Mark has flown Sailplanes (gliders) for five years, paragliders and hang gliders in the Peak District for fifteen years. Furthermore Mark has an intimate knowledge of the area’s geography and meteorology. He is also an active pilot flying powered hang gliders and para-motors (FLPA). Mark is a Senior Instructor for both hang gliding and paragliding Hill and Tow. He is also tandem pilot licensed for both disciplines and is active with the local club as a committee member. When not working Mark is also a club coach, helping other pilots to improve there flying skills and the understanding of the sport that is free-flight. Mark has taught paragliding and hang gliding in France, Turkey, Spain and Lanzarote, as well as the United Kingdom.

Small Groups

At Peak Airsports we limit ourselves to small groups of students. As far as we know, we are the only school in Britain that operates exclusively in this manner. You might find schools elsewhere that offer training more cheaply, but you could very easily find yourself in a group of sixteen new pilots, spending a lot of time waiting for others to launch. We believe that people expect professional quality training for the money they are paying for the course, and this is what we strive to provide in our school.

No Time Wasting

We have taken the decision to limit ourselves to a small number of bookings per year (usually 30). This alleviates tremendously the frustrations that trainees sometimes experience at other schools, when trying to book subsequent training on a 'first-come first-served' basis. We are committed to making sure the small number of trainees we accept each year are given every possible opportunity to complete their training, and do not get pushed to the back of the bookings diary to make way for more new customers!

Newest Equipment

All our training is done on the most modern paragliders and hang gliders. Harnesses have full back protection and radios are used as communication from the instructor to the trainee. Club Pilot training is carried out on the type of paraglider or hang glider you would be purchasing after leaving the school.

Video Analysis

We use digital camcorders at various stages on the training courses to assess your technique. This is an invaluable method of analyzing problems, particularly with launching and landing, and we are able to play back recordings on the training field with a portable monitor.

Simulator Training

We use our own paragliding flight simulator, which enables us to reproduce many of the more advanced exercises for you to try on the ground first. The simulator is fully equipped with a harness and paraglider controls: risers, brakes, speed bar, big-ears kit, and even a full set of suspension lines!

As well as practicing flight manoeuvres, we use it to look at harness setup, emergency parachute setup and positions for getting the most efficient and comfortable flight.
